Pvt. John H. Howard, Co. C, 7th Wisconsin Infantry, from Platteville. Wounded at Antietam in 1862. Later captured and was to be hanged but Gen. Grant said that if they hang Howard he would hang two Confederate officers. Howard was then sent to Andersonville, Ga. He died 1905 at age 80. Information courtesy of David Howard of Oak Creek, who is the fifth generation from his grandfather.
