1879 - Harry Sauthoff Born
On this date, , state senator and United States Congressman, was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Sauthoff practiced law in Madison after receiving his degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served as district attorney of Dane County, secretary to , and delegate to various national and international conferences. Sautoff served in the State senate from 1925 to 1929, and was elected as a Progressive candidate to the Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses (January 3, 1935-January 3, 1939). He was an unsuccessful candidate for re-election in 1938 to the Seventy-sixth Congress but was elected to the Seventy-seventh and Seventy-eighth Congresses (January 3, 1941-January 3, 1945). Sauthoff also ran unsuccessfully as a Progressive candidate for United States Senate in 1944. He resumed the practice of law until his retirement in 1955. Sauthoff died in Madison on June 16, 1966. He is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery. [Source: ]
